Peanut butter under nails
Gulping water, blueberries flying
A giggle, a grunt, a groan
Nah nah, ma ma, blah blah
Crumb coated cheeks & clothes
Cup upside down – bang, bang, bang
Sticky hair & hands
Arms swiping to & fro
“All done, all done”
Poetry, short prose, & general musings.
Peanut butter under nails
Gulping water, blueberries flying
A giggle, a grunt, a groan
Nah nah, ma ma, blah blah
Crumb coated cheeks & clothes
Cup upside down – bang, bang, bang
Sticky hair & hands
Arms swiping to & fro
“All done, all done”
The house where I was raised
Now belongs to strangers
The chalk signatures of friends
Washed away
The secret passage connecting bedrooms
Stuffed with unused clutter
Do they know what happened here?
Years of family bliss
Erased by tragedy
One young life
Gone in the night
How could all of this
Be snuffed out in mere minutes?
New memories cannot remove it.
Ghosts hover forever.
Sprinting to go someplace new
I’m so different than them
Away from small town & small minds
Farther & farther I go
the distance becomes my closest friend
I’m uprooted
Unsure how to reconnect
It hits me
All people are the same
But my people aren’t here
They’re in that small town
Now scattered, broken, bruised
How do I call my grandmother?
She doesn’t recognize my new last name
I keep moving
So much has changed
It’s all I can do.
Soulmates because we decided it.
No fairy dust or magic tricks.
We wrestle love to the ground
Our Covenant over our comfort.
We cultivate the butterflies
Instead of expecting them.
Eternity is a thing we understand
It’s wrapped our fourth fingers
A statement against the world
And it’s fledgling definition of love.
It is supposed to be some days
Not meant to be others
None of it matters
Because we choose it today.
Tomorrow.
Forever.
