The new year is approaching

But it’s just another day

Albeit one that makes me more reflective.

I put the kids to bed

My son came out of his room

and asked me

For one more thing

I didn’t have one more thing to give.

I got frustrated.

The dejection on his face was palpable.

After sitting and pondering

By grace I realized my mistake

And I went to him.

I said “I am sorry I am so tired. I am sorry I got frustrated. I love you.”

This year will bring many more mistakes

My only hope is God gives me

The mindset to say sorry

To bend, change, grow

To not become calcified

By the daily trials of this life.

May joy peek through

May humility beat pride.

And when it doesn’t

May I learn from that as well.
