I think the issue
That I frequently come back to
I never know
What kind of day it will be
If it were
Our last.
Poetry, short prose, & general musings.
I think the issue
That I frequently come back to
I never know
What kind of day it will be
If it were
Our last.
What dawned on me today is that to be an artist is but to be vulnerable. It is to show a piece of your inner self in some seen way – to write it down, paint it, sing it, photograph it. Art is the soul on display. Of course work & skill become part of a practice but the essence itself is only— vulnerability.
What do you do- when the worst thing that could happen- happens? We cast our lots on likelihoods and chance, softening the sharp corners of anxiety with platitudes. Some of us learn, the hard way, that this doesn’t always hold. Many times we tell ourselves, tell our children, to not be afraid simply because that bad thing would never happen. But bravery at its core is doing the scary thing even when that bad thing could happen- has happened. Courage is continuing to live after severe loss- to step into this wretched reality, and to somehow still find joy. Courage is facing the grief and taking a step forward anyway.

I long to lead a simple life
At home surrounded by babies & art
Writing & peace
Unbothered
A simple life
Is not what I was given
It is struggle and toil
Trials and pain
Yet opportunity blooms
Inside of the gloom
To press into the wounds
To see what God is doing
Where He is going
With these burdens we bear
The changes we can make
The impact that is left
Somehow must be worth
The fight.
